Sunday Strollers
Topic: Boston
Today was above freezing! We still got 4" of snow yesterday, but shoveling the sidewalk was easy and actually enjoyable with the warm temperature and sun shining.

Feeling like we had a little cabin fever, I took the dog for a walk, played ball with him in the yard. Then I left to meet Pete at Long Wharf in Boston. While I waited for him I saw a Russian oil tanker led into the harbor by tug boats. As I watched through the telescope on the pier, I could see the exhaust coming out of the pipes on the tugboats. The air was so incredibly hot the view of East Boston behind it looked like seeing it through a graduated cylinder of swirling methanol and water. (How's that for a nerdy analogy?) It was pretty cool to watch, though. (Where was my camera you ask? At home because I didn't want to carry anything that couldn't fit in my pockets. It was supposed to be a stress-free day.)

Because it was above freezing AND sunny, it seemed like a heat wave, so we walked around the pier and up to the North End. We hadn't been there since the Democratic National Convention back in July, and then it was just crazy-insane. We walked by The Old North Church and into the tiny, old streets in the area. We stopped at a few bakeries (for the wholesale club-sized container of Nutella and various other sweets that we didn't need). We also stopped in a vintage shop that had 60's dolls, purses, jewelry. Very cute and quaint. Pete was hungry and we stopped for lunch at Ernesto's. I had the spinach pizza and Pete had the sicilian style pepperoni pizza. Lunch for 2 for only $10.25. Excellent. Even better, we found a little taste of home in one of the candy shops. They had Pease's style Easter eggs.

We walked over to Faneuil Hall and looked to see if the mixing bowls at Crate & Barrel were on sale yet. (We missed our chance in January when the red set was only $20.) They weren't, but we did get new candles at Yankee Candle (Lemondade for the yellow kitchen and Sweet Pea for the blue bathroom).

It was such a relaxing and enjoyable day. I can't wait for SPRING!
