Topic: Food
Tripod has been down for days (or so it seems). I hated to leave such a "downer post" about my uncontrollable rage/anger/hate. Thankfully, that feeling is rare, otherwise I'd need some happy yellow pills to deal with life...
Anyway...
Coming from the mid-west, land of generous portions of tasty food at a resaonable price with good service, we've been disappointed with our dining-out experiences in the Boston area. Unfortunately, this means that we'd rather (gasp!) STAY HOME than go out to eat. It has had us talking about what an awesome restaurant/sports bar we could make because we know what diners want.
Lately, I've had the urge to cook, which is strange because I already feel like I'm pressed for time, and cooking just takes up more of it. Regardless, I've been having some fun with the cookbook making a-typical dishes for our house: Ranch Chicken, Old-Fashioned Beef Stew, Quiche, etc. One night after work, I met Pete at the door to "seat" him in his choice of the pub (living room) or restaurant (kitchen) complete with a menu of our beer selections, appetizers, entrees and desserts. He sat in the "pub", and I had figure skating on the tv and hid the remote so he'd have to ask to change the channel. I told him I'd have to get a manager (Tiger) to change it. (The whole production didn't last too long because he couldn't keep a straight face with my antics, and the landlord showed up at our door to inspect our leaking sink drain.) Regardless, it was kind of fun to have that "eating out" feeling at home.
Instead of trying THAT again, last night, we had "appetizer night" for dinner. I made buffalo chicken fingers while Pete made the chili cheese nachos. We ate our food and drank our beer while the dog begged for pieces of chicken. Then we sat in front of the TV, mindlessly watching "the game" and enjoying each other's company.
It was far from healthy, but it was good, cheap, and came with the best service around.
